There are two main methods of Underpinning, 'Traditional' and 'Pad & Beam'; Both methods have a proven track record and individual merits.

Underpinning Sequence, The Traditional R. E. LAY Way

The position and sequence of bases are set out prior to starting for engineers approval. A trench is formed to access below the level of the existing foundation. The foundation is then undermined.

All excavations are hand dug in strict sequence. The excavation is inspected and final trimming is carried out. The dowel bars, Slip membrane and shuttering are fixed. The pin is then concreted ensuring maximum compaction

When sufficiently cured the shutter is struck and Dry Packing is rammed between the underside of the foundation and the top of the pin. The packing is then left to cure before adjoining excavations are carried out
